Novice is the second division of hockey CNN offers for children 8 years old and younger (birth year between 2010-2011). At the beginning of the season your player will be leveled based on their abilities in order to accurately place them on a team that will best meet their needs and help them grow and strengthen their skills. They will get to practice these skills through a fun, learn-to-play model established by Hockey Canada where children are learning to be team players, while still refining the building blocks of hockey (skating, passing, puck-control and shooting) that they learned throughout initiation. Many of these skills are developed through various methods of teaching besides just practice. You will often see the kids playing shinny, freeze tag or working around obstacle courses set up on the ice. There is also other player development included throughout the season by outside instructors as well to help strengthen and hone these skills. Just like in initiation, there are opportunities to play informal hockey games against other teams as well as participate in tournaments!
